This homeowner in Springfield, MA called us hoping to get his attic insulation removed. He wanted to have an electrician do some work in his home, including in the attic. To do that, though, he needed all of the fiberglass insulation removed from his attic. The insulation was blown-in fiberglass, with some additional plastic-wrapped batts of fiberglass insulation added on top of some areas.
We were able to help this customer. We first bagged the batt insulation and removed it from the home. After that, we were able to use a large vacuum to remove the loose fiberglass as well as the leftover pieces from the batt insulation. The hose from the vacuum was routed out a window and into our truck, where the loose insulation was bagged and sealed. Now, we will be able to dispose of the old, dirty insulation, and the homeowner will be able to do the necessary work in his home before re-insulating his attic!
Attic Insulation job to help make rooms warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
This homeowner in Springfield, MA called us hoping that we would be able to help him with his attic. He wanted to be able to finish it, and needed a solution that would keep his family comfortable. Vented attics are hostile places - 30˚F in winter and 125˚F in the summer. They are very bad places to store things, and the worst place to locate ducts because they are the extreme opposite temperature as the air in the ducts that the homeowner paid to heat or cool. The attic floor allows air from inside the house to leak into the attic where it is lost. For each cubic foot of air that leaks out, a cubic foot of air from the outside enters the bottom of the house, making the lower levels cold and drafty. Heat from the house in the attic melts snow on the roof where it refreezes at the eaves causing destructive ice damming. In the summer, the sun heats the roof to 160˚F, which radiates to the attic and then to the ceilings and rooms. Results - Major heat loss to the attic from house and ducts in winter, and heat gain in summer, uncomfortable rooms, more drafts upstairs and downstairs, higher fuel/electric bills.
We had the perfect solution for this customer. In this solution, we install our SuperAttic™ system in the attic. SilverGlo™ EPS foam insulation board with graphite is installed on the underside of the roof deck. The graphite gives it superior R-value and a foil face on both sides reflects heat out in summer and back in during winter. The roof is still vented, kept cold in winter to prevent ice damming. In summer, excess heat is vented out. The attic is now part of the conditioned space in the home, and ducts in the attic are no longer in a hostile environment. The attic is clean, less dusty and suitable for storage. Results - The home is less drafty, warmer in winter and cooler in summer, lower fuel and electric bills, less dust.
This homeowner in Springfield, MA reached out to us because he had a rodent infestation in his home. He wanted to have his old, contaminated insulation removed. He then wanted it replaced with new insulation. When our Home Comfort Speicalist came out to the home, he went into the attic in order to evaluate it. While he was up in the attic, he noted that there was a mold remediation sticker from a different company from 6 months earlier. The homeowner stated during the evaluation that he wanted to ensure that the mold did not return.
We were able to help this customer! We were able to replace the attic insulation with TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. We started by removing the old blown-in insulation using a large vacuum. We then went in and air-sealed around all of the points where air leaks up from the home to the attic. We did this using our Zypfoam™ spray foam. Once the atitc is air sealed, we used a long hose to blow in TruSoft™ cellulose insulation. TruSoft™ is amazing -- it does not burn, get moldy, or attract pests. The blown-in insulation fills all gaps and oddly shaped voids. The homeowner is very excited to have brand-new insulation!
This homeowner in Springfield, MA called us initially to talk about his attic insulation. When our Home Comfort Specialist came out to the home, he asked if there were any other comfort issues they were having. They identified that they were thinking about getting basement insulation as well. The issues they were having with mold and rodents would be helped by basement insulation, and they though that it could improve their home comfort as well.
We had the perfect solution for this customer! We utilized two-part expanding spray foam. We insulated the rim joist (the perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the home). We spray this foam in the rim joist and over the sill plate. Insulating the rim joist in this way seals all air leaks -- filling in the cracks and gaps that are present there. This prevents outside air from getting into the home. The homeowner is now very happy, and he is much more comfortable in his home!
