Binghamton, NY - Closed Cell Spray Foam

These Binghamton, NY homeowners had converted their walk up attic to accomodate their growing family. Unfortunately, they faced the dilemma of an attic space that was very hot in the summer months and very cold in the winter months. The rest of the home had very minimal amounts of insulation, with the family room sitting over the garage which was quite chilly for the occupants of the home.

We dense packed the walls, slopes and the floor of the family room. We also used 4 inches of our Closed Cell Spray Foam to the side attics of the home for better insulation - these walls can easily be finished with sheetrock or other paneling to create a living space.

Binghamton, NY - Cellulose Insulation in Attic

This Binghamton, NY homeowner was having an issue with his exterior walls and had recently had a new roof put on, and wondered if the home was insulated enough. Our free Home Comfort Evaluation showed that there was no airsealing done to the attic space, but the attic had 13 inches of cellulose insulation in there. In order to properly air seal, we'd have to vaccum out the existing cellulose insulation.

Once we had all the cellulose insulation removed, we were able to properly air seal the attic. This includes sealing around the top plates, wire penetrations and light fixtures. We then did an open blow of 15 inches of fresh cellulose insulation.

Binghamton, NY - Dense Packing Attic Floor

This Binghamton, NY homeowner wanted to improve the comfortability of his home. Our Home Comfort Evaluation showed there was no insulation in the attic.

Since the attic was already fully decked for storage, we decided to dense pack the floor of the attic. There is also living space above the garage ceiling, which was quite cold to the homeowner. We dense packed the garage ceiling here as well. We also insulated a crawl space beneath the home with our encapsulation system with laying down 6 mil poly and spraying the walls and rim joists with 2 inches of closed cell spray foam.

Binghamton, NY - Cellulose Insulation in Attic

This Binghamton, NY customer had done a lot of research prior to his appointment with us. He was very concerned with ice damming on the roof on the south side of the home. The attic had layers of fiberglass batts in the attic flat, and the walls and rim joists lacked any insulation.

We proposed to remove all of the existing insulation from the attic flat, air seal and do an open blow of cellulose insulation, as well as dense pack the slopes and insulate the rim joists. We began the project by removing all of the fiberglass batts that were in the attic flat and air sealed. This meant sealing around top plates, wire penetrations, light fixtures and small gaps and cracks. We then dense packed the slopes of the attic walls with our Cellulose insulation before doing an open blow in the attic flat. 17 inches of our cellulose insulation was blown into the attic space. We then air sealed and insulated the scuttle access to the attic before spray foaming the rim joists with 3 inches of our Closed Cell Spray Foam to air seal and insulate.

Binghamton, NY - Dense Packing Attic Floor

These new homeowners in Binghamton were wanting to be a little more energy efficient in the attic. We proposed to dense pack the attic, including the stairs, landing and walls leading up to the attic.

Holes were drilled to fit our hoses for the cellulose insulation. and did a dense pack of our cellulose insulation to the floor of the attic. This allows the attic to still be usable for storage.
