These Fairfax Virginia homeowners called us to see if we could make some uncomfortable rooms warmer this winter. There were 2 specific rooms in their home that were above a crawl space and would get noticeably colder than other areas of the home. Our Certified Home Performance Sales Pro Eric was able to identify several services that would help. The crawl space was vented and allowing external air and temperatures to impact the home. Additionally the existing insulation was not air sealed so that cold air coming through the vents was working into the home above. We removed the existing fiberglass and Styrofoam insulation before using spray foam to seal up the uncontrolled air flow in the crawl space as well as insulate.
There are many places in the frame of a home that can allow for external air and temperatures to impact the comfort inside of the home. This Fairfax Virginia home had cantilevers where the different levels of the home met and they were not insulated. This lead to cold floors inside. Our production crew removed the underside panels of the cantilever and used spray for to air seal and insulate.
An unprotected HVAC duct system can leave you with an uncomfortable home and higher energy bills than you should have. Conditioned air, heated or cooled by the HVAC system is intended to pass through HVAC ducts to get to the different rooms in a home. If the temperature in an attic is 125 degrees in the summer, the cold air trying to move through the HVAC duct is in a hostile environment. Same idea in the winter. If it is 25 degrees in an attic, the 74 degree heated air trying to pass through the HVAC ducts is fighting to stay warm. Insulating ducts with spray foam helps protect that air and eliminates air leakage at joints and turns in the duct system. The insulation wrap that had been used to try and protect this duct systems was eaten through by rodents and had multiple holes and tears.
This homeowner was finishing their basement and wanted to make sure that during the construction process he did something to better control the humidity in his basement.
Closed cell spray foam was the answer that Comfenergy provided.
This Vienna, VA home was suffering from summers that were too hot and winters that were too cold. This was having a serious negative impact on the comfort level of the home. Our sales professional Greg went out to the property to perform a full home inspection and find the best possible solution to the homeowner’s discomfort. After completing the inspection Greg explained to the homeowners that the primary cause of their discomfort was a poorly insulated attic that was completely lacking in any kind of proper air sealing. He determined that the best course of action to end their discomfort would be to air seal the attic to stop any air leaks and to install new high-end insulation. After the homeowners agreed to Greg's solution our service crews went out to get to work on the home. The crews started by removing all of the old ineffective insulation that was failing to protect the home. After that, they apply ZypFoam air sealant to plug all the potential leaks in the attic to prevent uncontrolled unconditioned air from flowing freely into the home's living spaces. Finally, the crew installed the new TruSoft cellulose insulation to keep the home comfortable year-round.
