Making a Home Comfortable in Enfield, CT

This homeowner called our office looking for a full Energy Evaluation because her home was very cold and drafty and very expensive to heat.

Upon performing the evaluation, our Building Science Specialist realized that the basement was the main culprit. Without a properly insulated and air sealed basement, your home may seem much colder than necessary, resulting in a cold and drafty home overall and much higher energy bills!

By Insulating the Rim Joists with Closed Cell Spray Foam and lining the basement walls with Foamax Insulation Board, Dr. Energy Saver was able to fix the problem and accomplish our goal to provide warmer, less drafty rooms, and lower energy costs, making this homeowner happy, and more comfortable.

Insulating an Attic in Bloomfield, CT

This homeowner in Bloomfield, CT called us looking to have his attic insulation replaced. When our Home Comfort Specialist arrived at the home, he noted that this customer had large fiberglass batts for insulation. The insulation was dirty, covered in rodent droppings, and was in desperate need of replacement. It was obvious that there was an air leak of some kind in this attic due to the dirt that was strewn across the insulation.

We were able to help this customer with a short process. First, we removed the fiberglass batts that were in his attic. We then went in and air sealed in all of the tight spaces of the home -- between boards, in joints, et cetera. We then installed our TruSoft™ cellulose insulation in the attic. This insulation is blown in with a large machine. Since it is blown in, it is able to rest in all of the hard-to-reach nooks and crannies - making sure that there are no spots left uninsulated.

This will drastically help the temperature of the home as well as keep the homeowner's energy bills down for years to come!

Air Seal and Insulating a Rim Joist in Drury, MA

These home owners in Drury, MA had problems with cold floor and a freezing basement. A quick check of the basement and we found out that the rim joist wasn't insulated. Insulating a rim joist is one of the most important thing you can do to help make your home more comfortable. To stop the air from coming in and the cold from conducting through the wood, our team sprayed the rim joist and sill plate with our 2-part closed cell spray foam. This treatment will stop the cold air from getting through the cracks and will stop the cold from conducting through the wood and getting into your home. Once this is done, you will not have to worry about cold floors and a cold basement again!

Making a Three Season Porch Livable in Southwick, MA

These homeowners met us at the Western Massachusetts Home and Garden Show where they let us know that they had a porch that they were looking to make into more livable space. With our free energy evaluation, we found that they only had a thin radiant barrier under the floor, which was not enough to keep out the cold on its own.

We removed the radiant barrier and insulated the rim joist with spray foam to create a proper seal before getting to the insulation. We then started installing our SilverGlo insulation foam board. SilverGlo is a graphite infused expended polystyrene board with a radiant barrier facing, it has 24% more insulation value than standard expanded polystyrene board. Those boards were put in place with special long screws and 3 inch washers and then any spaces between the boards were sealed with spray foam.

Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, these homeowners can enjoy this porch all year round!

Insulating an Attic in Southwick, MA

This homeowner reached out to us saying that she had high energy bills and was cold in her home. As a result, she wanted to have her attic re-insulated. Luckily, we had the perfect solution for this customer.

In this solution, we first have to remove the old fiberglass batt insulation, as well as the plywood in the attic. Once the attic was cleaned, we started on air sealing the attic with Zypfoam one part spray foam. This seals all cracks and crevices in the attic floor. We then used a long hose attached to a machine that blows our TruSoft™ cellulose insulation into the attic. TruSoft™ cellulose is able to fill all gaps and odd-shaped voids, as it is blown in insulation.

Now, this homeowner will have a much more comfortable home!
