Insulating an Attic with TruSoft™ Cellulose in West Hartford, CT

This homeowner in West Hartford, CT called us hoping that she would be able to get her attic insulated. She had had issues with other companies giving her unrealistic estimates or refusing to fully evaluate or even touch the home. When our Home Comfort Specialist came to the home, he noted that there were multiple attic and kneewall spaces that needed to be insulated.

We provided multiple services for this homeowner. One of them was replacing the insulation on the floor of the attic.

We started by removing the old, inefficient fiberglass insulation. This was bagged and disposed of. We then removed any loose insulation that had gotten knocked off, as well as as much debris as we could.

We then went through the attic, sealing each gap with Zypfoam™, our one part expanding spray foam. This seals all the cracks and gaps that had this homeowner losing a LOT of air that they paid to heat. After that, we went in and used a large insulation blower to install the TruSoft™ cellulose insulation in the attic. This insulation is blown into the home through a large hose. The blown-in insulation fills all the odd spaces and voids evenly and provides a good insulation value.

Now, this homeowner will have a comfortable home for years to come!

Eliminating Water in a Basement in Granby, CT

This home owner in Granby, CT called us out to solve a water problem in her basement. When our building science expert got to the home, he saw the problem. There was no sump pump!

To install a sump pump, the first thing you have to do is find the lowest spot in the basement. This is where we will put the pump so the water will naturally go towards it. Then we start to jack hammer the concrete and dig a hole about 2-3 feet deep.

Once that is done, we put some stone in the bottom of the hole. After we do this, we put the pump housing in the hole and make sure it sits level with the floor. Then, we put in the pump and run the PVC piping out of the home through the rim joist and away from the house. The last step is to concrete around the pump to fill in the gaps.

Now that Dr Energy Saver came in and did a great job, this home owner does not have to worry about her water issues anymore!

Important Attic Preparation in Granby, CT

This home owner in Granby, CT called us out because he had a mold problem in his attic. On the inspection of the home the building science specialist saw that the attic was not properly insulated. This was the problem that was causing the mold. It was letting hot air escape into the attic creating condensation.

To stop this from occurring we have to properly insulate the attic. Before we do this, we have to remove all the insulation. The next step is to put up our insulation rulers. This is for the home owner to see that we blew the correct about of cellulose into their attic. Then we flag all the electrical in the attic so its easy for the electrician to find of they every needed to work on the wires upstairs. once we get this done, the attic is ready to be insulated!

Air Sealing a Drafty Home in Granby, CT

These young homeowners in Granby, CT had concerns about drafts in the home, especially in the walk-in closet where it was either too hot or too cold!  We sat with the homeowners during their FREE in-home Energy Evaluation, and came up with a plan to make their home more comfortable!

Since this was a Cape Cod-style construction, the second floor suffered from inadequate insulation making it susceptible to air leaks, causing the home to be harder to heat in the winter and harder to cool in the summer.  Our first concern was to go into the attic and remove the old, dirty insulation; over many years it sits collecting dirt, dust, pollen, bugs, rodent feces, nest, and all different kinds of undesirable things.  We went in and bagged and removed the damaged and soiled insulation creating a clean space for the new insulation.  We then addressed the air leaks in the attic, we need to keep an absolute boundary between our living space and the attic so inside air doesn’t move to the attic in the heating season (convection).  This results in a more comfortable, less drafty home, and saves YOU money.

Thanks to Dr, Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions the couple's home is no more comfortable all year with much less need for heating and air conditioning.
