Attic Insulation in Suffield, CT

This home owner in Suffield, CT called us at Dr Energy Saver because she could not keep her home at a consistent and comfortable temperature. There where a couple of things going on in this home but one of the has to do with a vertical wall upstairs. The wall has a conditioned space on one side and an un-conditioned space one the other. This is a problem that we can easily fix. What we have to do is separate the conditioned from the unconditioned so we start by blocking the floor with our SilverGlo foam insulation. This stop the air from under the attic floor from seeping into the wall. Then we have to insulate that wall. To do that we take our 4 " SilverGlo and start to cover the wall with it. In between every piece we have to remember to air seal so no air can get through. Now that the blocking is in, the SilverGlo is up, and it is air sealed, this home owner can live more comfortable in her home!

Making a Room Above a Garage Warmer in Suffield, CT

This customer in Suffield, CT called us out to help them with a problem they were having in their home. The problem was that they were having trouble keeping the room above their garage warm in the winter. Old fiberglass insulation leaves too much space for air to circulate around them, eliminating the R-value and making the room above cold and drafty in the winter.

To fix this we have to add more insulation into the garage ceiling. First we must drill holes in the garage ceiling. We need to do this in order to have somewhere to insert and dense pack our TruSoft cellulose insulation. That brings us to our next step. We take a flexible long dense pack hose and insert it all the way into the ceiling and across the top to fill in any space. Then we start dense packing with out TruSoft cellulose insulation. This will crush and condense the insulation previously in the ceilings and increases the insulation value. This density also stops airflow through the floor from air leaks. Thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions this customer is now comfortable in their room above the garage all year long!

Reducing Cold Floors in Humidity in Suffield, CT

This homeowner in Suffield, CT called us out to their home because they were having some cold floor and humidity concerns. During our Home Energy Evaluation we noticed they had a dirt crawl space. In the winter, crawlspaces let a lot of cold air into your home, and with little to no insulation, your home is not protected from that harsh outdoor air. As you can see in the photo, there was some rim joist insulation, but not enough. Crawlspaces are known to be a very moist area, with lots of humidity issues, especially in the summer.

Time for our treatment! We first lay down our plastic dimple drainage mat across the floor. Next, our Terrablock insulation boards are installed on top of the drainage mat. Finally, we use our 20 mil thick encapsulation liner across the floor and seal it with special tape, fasteners, and spikes as needed. This liner contains anti-microbial ingredients to fight off any potential mold, and allergens! Now, thanks to Dr. Energy Saver by Eco Energy Solutions, this home is more comfortable, happy, and energy efficient!

Replacing a Basement Door in Suffield, CT

This homeowner in Suffield, CT called us hoping that we would be able to help her with her insulation in her basement. Our Home Comfort Specialist evaluated the home and found many issues that the homeowners had just accepted dealing with. One of these issues was the fact that the home had no door at the bottom of the hatch steps. Since bulkhead doors are not insulated, they leak a lot of cold (or warm!) air into the basement, and it can float up into the rest of the living areas. This can cause cold floors in the winter or condensation, high humidity, and even mold in the summer. This is what the homeowner was experiencing.

Luckily for this customer, we were able to help her with this issue! We installed a insulated exterior door at the bottom of the steps. We first installed the framing that it needed. Then, we installed the door, complete with weather stripping and a locking knob. The fact that the door is insulated means that they will not be affected by the bulkhead door leaking air - the outside air stays outside.

Encapsulating a Crawl Space in Suffield, CT

This homeowner in Suffield, CT called us hoping that we would be able to insulate his crawl space and add a vapor barrier. He had an older home (built in the 1850s) with a very tight crawl space. In the winter, vents let cold air directly into the home. Floor insulation sags away from the subfloor and the cold air gets above it - rendering the insulation useless. In the summer the vents let warm humid air in which is cooled by the subterranean crawl space. This caused the relative humidity to go way up and condensation to form all over the crawl space surfaces including floor joists and ducts. Mold grows and wood rots, while insect and other pests flourish. Musty odors can be noticed upstairs as mold spores travel upwards into the living space. Eventually rotted floor joist must be replaced and mold must be remediated. An unending stream of water vapor comes up from the ground adding to the moisture load in the crawl space and house. The damp air is harder to heat and cool. Result - condensation, mold, rot, pests and odors, cold floors, drafts, uncomfortable home, higher fuel and electric bills.

We had the perfect solution for this customer -- the CleanSpace™ encapsulation system! The crawl space walls are insulated with SilverGlo™ insulation with a reflective radiant barrier face. SilverGlo™ foam has graphite infused into the foam to increase the R-value by 24% over standard EPS foam. Then a dimpled plastic drainage matting is installed on the floor to create an airspace and thermal break between the CleanSpace and earth. Finally the heavy duty, 20 mil thick CleanSpace™ crawl space encapsulation liner is installed permanently across the dirt floor - sealed with mechanical fasteners to the walls and spiked to the floor. CleanSpace™ features Ultrafresh™ anti-microbial ingredients in the product. Results - much lower humidity, much warmer floors upstairs, less drafts, more comfortable house, lower fuel and electric bills.
