This Home in White Plains was struggling to keep warm in the winter and stay cool in the summer. After Complete Home Solutions ran multiple tests including a Blower Door Test, the results showed that the home was leaking air at an alarming rate and the fiberglass insulation in the attic was old and not effective. To fix this problem the Production Crew had to first Air Seal all the top plates, light fixtures, and cracks to reduce any air from leaking out of the house through the attic. After the Air Sealing, the attic had to be then filled with Blown-in Cellulose Insulation until it reached the appropriate level for this region (R-Value of R-49). The combination of air sealing and the cellulose insulation dropped the customers utility bills drastically and made the home much more comfortable.
These homeowners were very happy that they had this analysis performed and had the air leakage problems fixed!
This homeowner was experiencing a lot of home comfort issues: drafty rooms, hot & humid summers, cold winters, etc. These issues mainly stemmed from a couple of problem areas in the attic. Firstly, it wasn't air sealed and was under insulated. Secondly, the insulation that was being used around the duct work was spotty and deteriorating. This really explains the issues that the homeowner was having.
We corrected the first problem by caulking all along the floor boards and applying blown in cellulose insulation. We corrected the second problem by installing SilverGlo foam board all around the duct work and sealing it off with caulk. Goodbye uncomfortable rooms and hello affordable utility bills!
This homeowner noticed that he didn't have a lot of insulation in his attic and knew that it must have been affecting his home's comfort. He asked Complete Home Solutions to come take a look and see if there was anything else that could be done to make his attic more energy efficient.
We sent out one of our home comfort specialists to take a look. He found that the attic could've, indeed, used more insulation but it also could've used some serious air sealing. This involved us installing spray foam insulation and caulk around penetrations and cavities (such as ceiling fixture penetrations) in order to prevent air leakage. We also provided a few other smaller solutions to complete the effect. Ultimately, this homeowner gained a more comfortable, less expensive house.

Suzanne called Complete Home solutions after hearing from a friend how much more efficient and comfortable her home was. Following an energy audit conducted by one of our Home Comofrt Specialist, the recommendation was made to address the poorly insulated attic of the home . On the day of the job, our Home Comfort Technicians began air sealing the attic with fire block spray foam. The spray foam is applied to our recessed light covers, top plates, and any outlets in the attic to ensure that the air you pay to heat or cool stays in the living space of your home. The next step in this attic was to vent the bath fans out through the roof. If your fans are not vented properly, it can create moisture issues in your attic. The final step of this attic project was to blow in new Cellulose insulation, which creates a 16 inch barrier between the attic condition and the rest of your home. As you can see in this picture, we install rulers throughout the attic to show our customers just how much of a difference our insulation makes. Suzanne noticed an immediate difference, even in mild temperatures, and can't wait to see how her house performs in the hot and humid summer months ahead.
