Our clients in Upper Marlboro had an attic space that wasn't properly insulated. We air sealed the attic and then added the correct amount of insulation. As a result, these homeowners will have significantly lower energy costs and a more comfortable home.
This homeowner was suffering from cold drafts in their house and called us to find the source of the issue. Our Home Comfort Specialist determined that the attic wasn't properly insulated, which was the source of the uncomfortable temperatures. Our Production Team removed the old insulation and installed new Cellulose Insulation. This will keep the home at a more comfortable temperature and save money on their energy bills.
Mr. Homeowner living in Upper Marlboro, Maryland had a real problem keeping his home at one temperature. His room with the thermostat was okay, but every other room was either too hot or too cold. He had heard about our company before, and wanted to hear our diagnosis.
We gave Mr. Homeowner a home energy audit to reveal the causes behind his discomfort. We labeled the attic as a problem area. There was essentially no air sealing, the batt insulation that was up there wasn't nearly enough and it was installed upside down (the paper side should be on the bottom). We fixed those problems and then blew in our cellulose insulation. Now every room can stay the same, comfortable temperature.
The insulation in this client's attic is in pretty rough condition. All of those "dirty" spots are signs that the insulation isn't working right. What we find to be the case a lot of times (and is true here also) is that there is no air sealing underneath the insulation. Without air sealing, air is free to filter in and out of the attic area (often causing discomfort and health concerns). We took out the old insulation (since it was too far deteriorated), air sealed the attic floors, and blew in cellulose insulation. This will create a much more energy efficiency home and make a major difference for the homeowner.
This homeowner had an uncomfortable home, but didn't think that the attic was really the problem - he already had insulation in his attic and was convinced that the problem must have been somewhere else. Wanting to figure out where this problem spot was, he asked Complete Home Solutions to perform an energy audit for his home.
We found that, although the attic did indeed have insulation, it was actually still leaking air in and out of the home, causing major discomfort. The way to correct this attic so that it facilitated a more comfortable home was to air seal all of the floor joists in the attic and to install more loose fill cellulose insulation. The homeowner was pleasantly surprised by the difference that these changes made to the overall comfort in his home.
