This homeowner in Pasadena, Maryland was having problems with cold air drafts in his home. He wanted someone to come over and figure out what was going on with his house. Luckily, he got into contact with our people here at Complete Home Solutions. 

Our home energy audit revealed the attic to be quite a problem. So, we performed some of our routine work -- air sealing and installing cellulose insulation -- to fix it up. As a finishing touch, we also installed an Attic Door Tent, which is what you see here in this picture. This effectively prevents air from leaking through the attic opening. Now the homeowner is living comfortably without having to worry about cold air drafts! 

This homeowner had very drafty rooms that became unbearably cold in the winter. Rather than waiting for winter to come through and freeze her house up, she decided to have CHS come out and diagnose what was going on with her house (and tell her what we could do to fix it).

After performing a home energy audit, CHS found that the attic was an area of concern. The old BATT insulation that was up there was just not cutting it. We needed to move the old insulation out of the way so that we could then air seal and then add blown in cellulose insulation. The ruler that you see in the picture on the right is used to show the homeowner how much insulation should be in there attic (R-49 which is about 14 in). Now this homeowner can be prepared to enjoy winter from a warm, cozy, comfortable home. 

The crawl space can be a scary place for a lot of homeowners to venture into -- it is usually dirty, damp, and has creepy crawlies roaming around. But, it's important to know what's going on down there! For one, whatever air is down there is making its way into your living space and you are breathing that in every day. For two, cold air gets in your house from the bottom (which is not something you want when the weather starts getting below freezing!). 

This homeowner was just like many others...he didn't want to go down into his crawl space to see what was going on...so he hired CHS to do it instead! By going down there we were able to see what the space needed -- which was air sealing the walls, installing a vapor barrier, and installing fresh insulation. We were able to deliver a happy, healthy home to this now happy, healthy customer. 

These homeowners didn't understand why their house always felt so uncomfortable even though they knew they had insulation in their attic. To get a better understanding of their house and what they could do to fix it, they asked CHS to come out and perform a home energy audit. 

One of the things that our home comfort specialist noticed right away was the discoloration of the insulation in the attic. What this told him was that there was nothing stopping air from flowing in and out of the attic (i.e. no air sealing). CHS went ahead and air sealed the attic and also applied cellulose insulation. The end result is a set of customers who are very comfortable in their home.  

This homeowner felt like she was paying way too much in her utility bills (especially around the winter and summer months) She decided to have Complete Home Solutions  perform an energy audit on her home to figure out where she was losing energy (and money). 

From this home energy audit, we found that there was a significant amount of air leakage happening in the attic. Although there was some insulation up there, there was not the BPI recommended amount (which is about 14") and there was no air sealing  (which plays a major role in stopping air leakage). So, we air sealed the attic and installed blown in cellulose insulation. These solutions have really helped this homeowner to bring down her utility bills (while making her much more comfortable)!
