Ashburn VA Cantilever gets spray foam to help insulate

This Ashburn VA home had an uninsulated cantilever.  The external temperatures were impacting the condition and comfort in the room above.  We removed the base board of the cantilever on the outside of the house and filled the cavities with spray foam to insulate and air seal.  This will help to keep outside temperatures out and inside feeling the way the homeowner would like it to.

Wall adjacent to attic-Summerduck, VA

This before and after shoto series shows a vertical wall adjacent to an attic.  Poorly insulated walls like this can allow hot air from the attic to radiate through the drywall and heat the room on the other side.  Closed cell spray foam keeps the heat away from the wall and protects it from heating the room on the other side!!

Adjacent Attic Wall in Catlett, VA

This Catlett, VA homeowner was having issues with their master bedroom being hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Upon an evaluation by Comfenergy, we found one of the walls of the master bedroom were adjacent to the attic above the garage.  The only insulation providing a thermal barrier between this wall and the hot/cold attic on the other side, was falling fiberglass insulation.

Even if fiberglass were in place on this wall it still would not stop air movement and heat transfer through it.  Fiberglass is ONLY effective if it is sandwiched on all sides by an air barrier.

Comfenergy used 2" thick SilverGlo EPS foam boards to build an additional R10 of thermal barrier along the back side of this wall.  More importantly it creates an air barrier for the fiberglass and makes it effective!

Now this customer has a total of R23 on this wall and its air tight!  Comfort at its best!

Utility Room air sealing-Sterling, VA

This Sterling, VA homeowner had a utility room that backed up to their garage.  There was a lot of air leakage allowing cold air to travel through the utility room and into the basement making it cold in the winter.

Thermax foam boards and one part foam was used to seal this air leakage off, and to keep it safe from flammability.  Thermax is a fire resistant material.

Cold Storage Area-Sterling, VA

This Sterling, VA homeowner had a nice storage area beneath the stairwell that is adjacent to their garage. The cold garage air made this room very cold int he winter.  Comfenergy used Thermax foam boards and two part foam to air seal it and make it warm to put to better use!
