These homeowners in Binghamton, NY wanted to make their home more comfortable. They had taken some measures into their own hands, but needed some extra help as they were still rather cold during the winter in the home.
We began by removing the existing insulation in the attic so we could properly air seal the attic space. This included installing can light covers over 12 light fixtures in the attic and sealing around them, as well as sealing the top plates, large gaps (if any) and wire penetrations. We also blew in 14 inches of our cellulose insulation. There was also a beautiful vaulted ceiling that needed some insulation. We installed 2 inch foam board and air sealed so the homeowner can finish the ceilings. We also sprayed 2 inches of our Closed Cell Spray Foam into the rim joists of the basement, as well as the garage ceiling which was a top list item for these homeowners.
This customer was having a lot of trouble with heat loss in the attic. They had previously had the sheetrock replaced, but were still having a lot of condensation issues with the attic so they gave us a call to help them out, as a previous contractor had cut holes in their metal roof to resolve the issue. However, this did not resolve the issue for the homeowner at all and still had issues with humidity and heat loss.
Our crew sealed off all of the metal holes, installed baffles for proper ventilation and did an open blow of 14 inches of our blown in cellulose insulation into the attic space.
This resulted in less humidity, and resolving the issue of heat loss.
This home in Binghamton, NY was in need of more insulation. With the New York Empower program, we were able to help insulate the home and make the home more energy-efficient.
We dense-packed the outer walls with cellulose insulated, packing the walls tightly. To do this, we carefully removed the siding from the home and drilled holes slightly bigger than our hoses in order to dense pack the walls. We then used wood plugs and Zyp foam to seal the holes before carefully replacing the siding. You'd never know we had done work looking at the home!
We also spray foamed the foundation walls with our closed-cell spray foam. This seals any gaps and cracks allowing outside air to leak indoors making it colder.
