A great way to improve the comfort and energy performance of a home is to apply Spray Foam to the rim joists at the top of the basement foundation walls.  This space can often allow outside air and temperatures to impact the home.  Cold or hot air from outside can cause temperature fluctuations and can carry in dust and allergens that can impact the air quality in the home.  50% of the air inside of a home comes from the lowest points of open air access in the home so creating a low point that is not in or near a basement can keep moisture out as well.  Our production crew applied Spray Foam to this entire basement at all of the rim joists and created and air seal along with better insulation.

Photos of mold on a set of basement stairs in Hamilton, VA.  Stairs were cleaned within a contained area with negative pressure maintained.  Stairs were cleaned with industrial strength Hydrogen Peroxide, with HEPA vacuuming before and after chemical treatment.

These stairs were in a basement room that had little or no moisture control.  After addressing the moisture issue we provided detailed cleaning services to assure good air quality for the occupants of this historic home.

Proper continment was established and then a protocol of HEPA Vac, Treat with Peroxide, HEPA Vac was deployed in order to remove mold spores.

The homeonwer living in The Plains, VA was having trouble reducing the humidity in their home all year round. During the comfort and energy evaluation it was found that the humidity source was the dirt floor crawl space allowing the humidity from the Earth to rise through the house.

Comfenergy installed dimple matting, Terra Block floor insulation, CleanSpace 20 mil vapor barrier, and then closed cell spray foam insulation. Now the humidity can be controlled as it is not allowed to enter the home.
