This Cape Cod style home in Waldorf,MD was in need of some help from high energy bills and hot and cold rooms.
Our team performed a home energy audit to determine where the home was leaking air. The production crew installed spray foam to ensure no future air leakage and make the home more comfortable and efficient.
This home in Waldorf suffered from uncomfortable temperatures in the summer and winter so the homeowner called Complete Home Solutions to find the source of the problem. Our Auditor determined that the source was insufficinet and ineffective insulation in the attic space.
Our Production Team used blown in cellulose insulation to reach the Dr. Energy Saver suggested level to make the home more comfortable and energy efficient.
This client had lived in her home for about 10 years and, year after year, seemed to face the same problem. Her upstairs got unbearably hot in the summer months. Before peak heat season this year, she decided to call up Complete Home Solutions to provide her with a solution.
Our auditor found that air sealing and insulating the attic would create a controlled home environment (and consequently a comfortable home too). If your attic is left untreated, you are leaving opportunity for hot, hot air to continuously flow in to your living space. At this point, turning up your air conditioning is going to do nothing except raise your electric bill. This client now has a comfortable home that stays as cool or warm as she wants it to.
This homeowner had a home with an attached garage. This is a pretty common set up, but what happens when the knee-wall between your garage and up-stairs bedroom is poorly insulated? That bedroom, and your house in general, is going to have a lot of trouble keeping a comfortable temperature year round (which is what this homeowner was experiencing).
Complete Home Solutions (as our name entails) had the solution for this. We took down the old insulation (which wasn't helping to stop air leakage as it was) and used a newer method for air sealing and insulating. We applied spray foam sealant first, then 1/2" of polysio foam board insulation on top of that and sealed the edges with caulk. This would have a huge impact on the overall comfort of this homeowner!
This homeowner called us because he was concerned about the condition in his crawl space. He was experiencing musty odors in humid weather and extreme temperature variations through the 1st floor of his home. Our Home Comfort Specialist went out to take a look and found standing water in some areas from recent rains, moisture saturated insulation that had begun to deteriorate and fall. Essentially the unhealthy conditions in his crawl space were affecting the indoor air quality in his home.
Our Home Comfort Specialist recommended crawl space encapsulation, which removed the existing damaged insulation and now keeps the moisture out of the crawlspace. The result is a home that not only smells better, but the homeowner is also breathing healthier air as a result of his recent improvements. The homeowner is extremely happy with the results and is living more comfortably!
